Hello Oakland Owls! It is a pleasure to be a part of the Oakland family. I moved to Clarksville, TN from Summerville, SC mid June, after retiring from the Dorchester District 2 school system, where I was a classroom teacher for 17 years and a school counselor for 14 years. I have two grown sons; Aaron, who lives here in Clarksville and Jonathan, who is in the Air Force and resides in Nebraska with his wife Jessie. I have two adorable cats, Josie and Delilah!! I love being outdoors and I love the beach, the lake and boating! I was a former group fitness and indoor cycle instructor, but now I attend classes. 🙂 I am very excited about this new chapter in my life and I am looking forward to a fantastic year of growth for my students and myself.

Oakland uses a positive behavior matrix that promotes student awareness of expected behaviors.  This matrix can be seen in every room throughout the building, is described in our school handbook and builds off our character trait acronym (WISDOM) banners handing from our foyer ceiling.  Each desired trait is broken down to identify school related desired behaviors to create student understanding and awareness of expectations.  These indicators are also linked to Class Dojo, which is used not only by teachers, but throughout the entire building by special area teachers, special service providers, support staff, and administrators to provide consistency for our students and with parent communication.  There are six overarching categories/character traits that students are taught and expected to strive for:

  • Work Ethic
  • Integrity
  • Self-discipline
  • Determination
  • Optimism
  • Motivation
